Las Vegas Prime Document

LAS VEGAS PRIME DOCUMENT

This semester, our class varies its format in that we must shoot all images with the same "prime" lens. Initially, I found it challenging to avoid the instinct to "zoom" the lens to frame the picture. My lens of choice is the Canon 100m 2.8L macro on my Canon 7D. As before, we visit a different Las Vegas site each week to document what we find with our cameras.

The objective for the next three weeks is  "people".   The Las Vegas strip  offers many opportunities  for interesting photography  and  the  people one sees there are  most fascinating   -  tourists,  shoppers,  workers,  hawkers, boskers, beggars - they are all there.

Water Street, Henderson, NV October 6,2011

We were blessed with clear skies  and  cool temperatures for our outing to Water Street.  The  bright sun made  for  some  great shadows for our images.

CITY CENTER September 29, 2011

The location for our third outing is  the City Center complex and the Cosmopolitan,  the newest resort on the Las Vegas Strip,  again finishing the images in black and white.  City Center includes three major hotels - Aria, Vdara  and The Mandarin Oriental,  the Veer residential towers,  and Crystals,  an upscale shopping mall featuring  designer boutiques and several  restaurants.  This area  is my favorite photo location on  the Las Vegas Strip, featuring distinctive modern architecture and artistic features  throughout  the hotels, shops and restaurants. Most of my images from this week were taken in Crystals  and the Cosmopolitan.  From 300+ images,  it was difficult chosing just 10 to post on the class Flickr group.  My  first pass-thru had 94 picks,  then reduced to 40.  Here are several that are not on Flickr.
